# kiln pool

> Configure pre-warmed snapshot pools.

## `kiln pool`

Configures pre-warmed pools — ready-to-resume snapshots a matching `kiln sandbox create` claims automatically instead of cold-booting. No separate "claim" command; see [Startup latency & the pre-warmed pool](/architecture/startup-latency).

| Command | What it does |
| - | - |
| `create <id>` | Configure a pool under `<id>`. `--image <id>`, `--vcpu <count>`, `--mem <mib>` (all daemon defaults if omitted — a matching create must resolve to the exact same values to claim from this pool), `--warm-count <n>` (default `0`, how many resumable snapshots to keep ready), `--max-count <n>` (caps total live instances of this pool's profile, warm-resumed or cold-created alike — omitted means unbounded; a create at the ceiling with nothing warm queues up to 30s instead of exceeding it or rejecting outright). |
| `ls` | List configured pools, including how many are currently warm and ready. |
| `rm <id>` | Remove a pool's configuration and destroy whatever it currently has warm. A sandbox already claimed from it is unaffected. |

## Example

```bash theme={null}
kiln pool create build-workers --vcpu 2 --mem 1024 --warm-count 3
kiln pool ls
build-workers  vcpu=2 mem=1024  warm=3/3 ready
kiln sandbox create --vcpu 2 --mem 1024
f3b2a1c0-9e8d-4c7b-a6f5-e4d3c2b1a0f9
```

That last `create` matches `build-workers`' profile exactly (no `--drive`, no rate-limit flags), so it transparently resumed a warm instance instead of cold-booting — no separate "claim" command to run.
